Which Facial Filler Is Best for Someone Who Has Never Had Filler Before?
For first-time filler patients from Santa Ana, I almost always recommend starting with hyaluronic acid fillers like Restylane. Here's why: if you don't like the result, I can dissolve it. That safety net matters when you've never had anything done before. I've seen too many patients come in after getting Sculptra or Radiesse as their first filler at some med spa, and they're unhappy with a result that can't be reversed. That's a rough first experience. Start with something reversible, see how you feel about the change, and then we can talk about longer-lasting options down the road. I (Dr. Mirrafati) been injecting fillers to the face and buttock for over 30 years, and most importantly, I am the one injecting it and not a nurse trained over a weekend in a two day training course.
What Fillers Can and Can't Do
Fillers replace volume that your face has lost over time. After 35 or so, your cheeks start to flatten, the area under your eyes gets hollow, your lips thin out, and the lines from your nose to your mouth get deeper. Filler puts that volume back. What filler can't do is tighten loose skin or fix severe sagging. If your jowls are the problem, filler alone won't fix that. Some of my Santa Ana patients come in asking for filler when they really need a lift, and I'd rather lose the sale than give you a result that doesn't hold up.
My Approach to Injection
I inject conservatively. The goal is for people to say you look great, not to guess what you had done. I focus on restoring your own facial proportions, not creating new ones. The trend of overfilled lips and chipmunk cheeks is going to age terribly, and I refuse to do that to my patients. Each appointment takes 30 to 45 minutes. I use topical numbing cream, and most fillers also contain lidocaine so the discomfort is minimal. Some swelling and mild bruising are normal for a few days. I tell my Santa Ana patients to avoid aspirin, fish oil, and alcohol for a couple of days before their appointment to minimize bruising.

Pricing and What to Expect
Filler pricing depends on the product and how many syringes you need. A single syringe of Juvederm or Restylane runs from $385 to $585. Most patients need one to two syringes depending on the treatment area. I'll tell you the exact cost before we start, no surprises. We also offer membership pricing that brings the cost down if you plan to maintain your results over time.
