Can Liposuction Alone Fix My Inner Thighs, or Do I Need a Thigh Lift?
This depends on your skin quality, and age plays a big role. If you're under 40 with good skin elasticity and your main complaint is a pocket of fat on your inner or outer thighs, liposuction alone will probably give you a great result. Your skin will retract and tighten on its own. If you're over 50, or you've lost a significant amount of weight, the skin may not snap back. That's when we combine lipo with a thigh lift to remove the excess skin. I see a lot of Newport Beach patients who are in great shape from Pilates or cycling but still have that stubborn inner thigh fullness that won't budge no matter how much they work out. That's a genetics problem, not a fitness problem, and liposuction handles it well. I have done this for over 30 years and I do all my surgeries myself.
How I Approach Thigh Contouring
I use tumescent liposuction with small cannulas. The smaller the instrument, the smoother the result. Large cannulas create rippling and unevenness. I also sculpt in layers, removing fat from deeper layers first, then refining the superficial layer. This takes longer but gives you a natural contour instead of a scooped-out look. For thigh lifts, I place the incision in the groin crease where it's hidden by underwear or a swimsuit. Newport Beach patients care about scarring, and so do I. The scar fades significantly over six to twelve months.
Recovery for Thigh Procedures
Liposuction-only recovery is about three days to one week before you feel normal. You'll wear a compression garment for four to six weeks. Walking is fine right away. Running and heavy exercise wait until week four to six. A full thigh lift has a longer recovery, more like three to four weeks before you're comfortable in regular clothes. I tell my patients to plan the procedure before summer, not during it. You want to be healed and ready for shorts and swimsuits by June, so February or March is ideal timing.
