I'm in My Late 20s. Is It Too Early to Start Botox?
Not only is it not too early, it's actually smart timing. Preventive Botox in your late 20s and early 30s stops deep lines from forming in the first place. Think of it like this: every time you frown or squint, you're folding the same crease into your skin. Over years, that crease becomes a permanent line even when your face is relaxed. If you start Botox before that line becomes permanent, you're training your muscles to stay relaxed and preventing the damage from accumulating. I see patients from Mission Viejo and the Laguna area who started preventive Botox at 28 and now at 38 have smoother skin than friends who waited until 40 to start. Less product, less cost, better long-term results.
How Preventive Botox Differs From Corrective
Preventive Botox uses fewer units because the muscles haven't fully developed those deep contraction patterns. You might need 15 to 25 units total compared to 40 to 60 units for someone starting at 50 with established lines. The goal is subtle. Your face still moves normally. Nobody can tell you've had anything done. You just don't develop those deep forehead furrows and crow's feet that add years to your appearance. For corrective Botox at later ages, we use more units and may combine it with filler to address lines that are already etched in when the face is at rest.
Where I Inject and Why
For most patients, I treat three areas: the forehead, the glabella (between the eyebrows), and crow's feet. Depending on your concerns, I might also treat bunny lines on the nose or a gummy smile. Each area requires specific unit counts and precise placement. I've been doing this for over 30 years, and the skill is knowing exactly where to place each injection for your unique anatomy. Two patients the same age can need completely different treatment plans.
