Am I Too Young for a Facelift, or Should I Wait Until I'm Older?
There's a persistent myth that you should wait until you're 60 or 65 for a facelift. I disagree. The best facelift results come when you still have some skin elasticity left to work with. Patients in their late 40s and 50s often get the most natural outcomes because their tissue cooperates better. I have Irvine patients in their early 50s who look ten years younger but still look completely like themselves. That's the sweet spot. If you wait until everything has completely collapsed, the result is harder to make look natural. I'm not saying rush into surgery. I'm saying don't wait until you're past the point where a conservative approach gives you a great outcome. I (Dr. Mirrafati) been doing face lift surgeries for more than 30 years and published a book regarding Face Lift surgery.
What a Modern Facelift Actually Does
Forget the pulled, windblown look from the 1990s. A modern facelift repositions deeper tissue, the SMAS layer and muscle, so your face is lifted from the foundation. Then I redrape the skin without pulling it tight. The result is a face that looks like yours did seven to ten years ago, not a different face. I tighten the jawline, smooth the jowls, and clean up the neck. The incisions are hidden around the ear and into the hairline. Most people can't find them even when they're looking.
Why Experience Matters for Facelifts
A facelift is not a weekend course procedure. It requires an understanding of facial anatomy that takes years to develop. I've been performing facelifts for over 30 years and have treated more than 50,000 patients across all procedures. The facial nerve runs right through the area I'm working in. One wrong move and you have a drooping face. That risk is dramatically lower with a surgeon who does this regularly versus someone who does two or three facelifts a year.
Recovery Timeline for Irvine Patients
Plan for two weeks off work. The first week involves swelling and bruising that looks alarming but resolves quickly. By week two, most patients can cover any remaining bruising with makeup. By week three, most people won't notice. The internal healing continues for three to six months, and that's when you see the final result. I see my facelift patients multiple times during recovery to make sure everything is healing properly. Our Costa Mesa office is close enough to Irvine that follow-up appointments aren't a hassle.
Pricing and What to Expect
Filler pricing depends on the product and how many syringes you need. A single syringe of Juvederm or Restylane runs from $385 to $585. Most patients need one to two syringes depending on the treatment area. I'll tell you the exact cost before we start, no surprises. We also offer membership pricing that brings the cost down if you plan to maintain your results over time.
