I Spend a Lot of Time in the Sun. Does That Affect How Long Botox Lasts?
This is a great question that Huntington Beach patients should be asking. Sun exposure itself doesn't break down Botox faster, but here's what does: the outdoor, active lifestyle that comes with living at the beach. If you're surfing, running on the strand, or playing volleyball, your metabolism runs higher and you're using your facial muscles more. Both of those factors can cause Botox to wear off faster. I see some of my very active Huntington Beach patients every three months instead of every four because their results fade sooner. It's not a problem, just something to plan for. On the flip side, Botox can actually help prevent the deep lines that sun exposure accelerates, so it's almost more important for beach-active patients to stay on top of it.
What I Treat With Botox
The classic areas are forehead lines, frown lines (the "elevens"), and crow's feet. But I also use Botox for gummy smiles, chin dimpling, neck bands, jawline slimming, and excessive sweating. For Fountain Valley patients who clench their teeth at night, Botox in the masseter muscles can reduce jaw pain, headaches, and slim the lower face at the same time. Each area requires a different amount and a different technique. A good injector adjusts the dose and placement based on your specific muscle strength, not a one-size template.
Natural Results, Not a Mask
I always start with a conservative dose. You should still be able to express yourself. If your friends can tell you had Botox, too much was used. The goal is to soften lines while keeping natural movement. I'd rather have you come back for a small touch-up in two weeks than walk out looking frozen. After 30 years of injecting, I know exactly how each muscle responds and how different doses affect the final look. I also inject all my Botox treatment myself and not a weekend trained nurse.
Pricing and What to Expect
Botox is $9.50 per unit for non-members and $7.50 per unit for members. The units used are generally 20 units for the frown lines, 20 units for the forehead, and 10-20 units for the crows feet. The minimum units at one time is 20 units. I'll tell you the exact cost before we start, no surprises.
