Male Pectoral implant surgery is a procedure that is used to improve the appearance of a man’s chest. This procedure uses a safe and FDA approved implant that is designed to increase the size and definition of the male chest. Pectoral implants may be used for both cosmetic and reconstructive purposes. Pectoral implant surgery is an excellent option for men who want a more defined chest appearance. Some men have a difficult time developing their pectoral muscles with exercise because of their genetics. Pectoral implants are an ideal option for improving their body proportions and appearance. In the case of reconstructive plastic surgery, men who have an absence of the pectoral muscle or have a pigeon chest are also excellent candidates for male pectoral implants.
During the consultation the patient can expect for Dr. Mirrafati to take careful measurements of your chest and learn what your goals are. Next, the specific implant to be used will be decided upon. A complete medical history and a careful examination will be performed including blood work to determine the general health of the patient. During the consultation photographs will be taken to compare the before and after and evaluate the improvement achieved.
Prior to the surgery Dr. Mirrafati will discuss the procedure, realistic expectations, the type of anesthesia that will be used and the possible risks of surgery. Preoperative instructions generally include taking certain vitamins and the elimination of certain drugs to minimize the possibility of excess bleeding. Furthermore, antibiotics may be prescribed for the days prior to surgery in order to prevent infection.
A male pectoral implantis generally performed at our outpatient surgical facility under general anesthesia or IV sedation. After the surgery the patient is usually allowed to go home. A surgical dressing is placed to protect the incisions and a compressive bandage is placed to help minimize swelling. A small, thin tube may be temporarily placed under the skin to drain any excess blood or fluid that may collect. The chest may be tender and bruised for the first few days and any pain experienced can be controlled with oral medication. Healing is gradual, and although light activity can be resumed within a few days, routine exercising and vigorous activity should be avoided until specified by the doctor.
With any surgical procedure risk including bleeding and infection can occur. At Mira Aesthetic Medical Center we will inform you of the potential risks and advice you to adhere to doctors orders. The decision to have plastic surgery is extremely personal and only you can weight the potential risks and benefits of surgery.
